Young Boy Falls from 4th Story Balcony in Sunnyvale

A 4-year-old boy is in the hospital with serious injuries after he fell from the fourth-floor balcony of his home in Sunnyvale.

Captain Jim Choi of the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety says that as of the evening of March 26, there is no update on the boy’s condition. The boy sustained serious injuries in the fall and is at a local hospital for treatment.

Officers say the boy fell from the balcony at the Sunnyvale Fairways apartment complex near the intersection of Poplar Avenue and El Camino Real around 5 p.m. Monday evening. He landed on the balcony of a unit on the first floor.

One neighbor told KGO that he called 9-1-1 after he found the boy bleeding but breathing.

According to Choi, at least one adult family member was at home when the boy fell. As of right now, investigators believe this was an accident, but Child Protective Services and the District Attorney have both been notified because it is protocol.

Choi says it’s important that families “…look at their surroundings and ensure that balconies are clear of things that a child can climb onto and also to ensure safety measures are taken for windows; such as screens, child proofing and just be aware of the surrounding potential dangers.”
