San Jose police officers have arrested an 18-year-old from Santa Clara for his alleged involvement in a home invasion robbery. Police say they arrived at a home on Newton Avenue just a few blocks away from the 101 – 280/680 interchange in San Jose around 10:21 a.m. on Oct. 13.
The homeowner told police officers that when they arrived home in the morning, Velo was inside. The homeowner reportedly interacted with Velo in some way and Velo allegedly struck the homeowner in the face with a pistol. The homeowner is expected to survive. Velo then allegedly took “multiple belongings and personal property” from the home before leaving.
Officers with the San Jose Police Department’s (SJPD) Robbery Unit responded to the scene. Velo was not there when they arrived, however, they say their investigation identified Velo as the suspect. Officers obtained an arrest warrant and a search warrant for Velo’s home. Police say Special Operations personnel from the METRO Unit, Violent Crimes Enforcement Team (VCET) and MERGE all went to Velo’s home in Santa Clara. He was taken into custody without incident.
Robbery detectives with SJPD say that a search of Velo’s residence recovered the stolen property taken from the San Jose home. Officers also found narcotics, a loaded firearm and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
Velo was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on charges of robbery and conspiracy. He is currently out on bail. San Jose police officers are still looking for witnesses or anyone else with information in regard to this case. If you know anything, you are asked to call Detective Hernandez #4392 with SJPD or Detective Mendoza #4395. Both officers work in SJPD’s Robbery Unit.
