Santa Clara Police Report: May 10 – 16

The Police Blotter highlights a partial list of incidents in the city and is distributed on a weekly basis. The Blotter provides the date, time, approximate location, a narrative summary of the incident, case number and the most serious arrest charge.

Meanwhile, the Arrest Log provides a timely, chronological summary of all the arrests made by the Santa Clara Police Department. It includes the name of the suspect(s), date of birth, city in which they reside, arrest date, time, location, case number as well as all the charge(s) associated with the arrest. This information, located on the Santa Clara Police Department’s home page (www.scpd.org), is updated daily and serves as the most comprehensive list of arrests made.

Fraud

Location: 600 Block of Washington Street

An officer was deployed to the 600 block of Washington Street on the report of a prior fraud.

The victim was approached by an unknown subject interested in buying a painting listed on eBay. The victim received an email from PayPal, later determined to be fraudulent, claiming the subject put double the asking price into the victim’s account. The email stated the only solution was for the victim to purchase an eBay gift card and send the subject an email with a photo of the redemption code. The total loss was $200. The subject is unknown and at large.

Drunk

Location: Saint Mary’s Place and Fordham Drive

A passerby observed a juvenile male subject laying in the middle of the roadway near Saint Mary’s Place and Fordham Drive.

Upon arrival, an officer determined the subject was intoxicated. The Santa Clara Fire Department was dispatched, and the subject was transported to a local hospital.

It was later determined the subject drank alcoholic beverages with unknown subjects on a local school campus. A Juvenile Contact Report was created to document this incident.

Petty Theft

Location: 3400 Block of Miraverde Court

A victim on the 3400 block of Miraverde Court received a package at approximately 2310 hours on 5/11/20. The victim was not expecting a package and, due to the late hour, did not answer the door.

Approximately five minutes later, the victim observed a male subject leaving the doorstep with a package. This incident was not reported to SCPD until 0813 hours on 5/12/20. The unknown subject remains at large.

Commercial Burglary

Location: 600 Block of Laurelwood Avenue

Public Safety Dispatchers received a call for service regarding a commercial burglary on the 600 block of Laurelwood Avenue.

Through investigation, it was determined between 5/9/20 – 5/12/20, an unknown subject(s) cut a hole in the wall of a public storage facility. Three storage units were accessed as a result. At the time of this report, it is unknown what items were stolen. There is no suspect information.

Warrant Arrest

Location: El Camino Real and Scott Boulevard

An officer observed a male subject near the intersection of El Camino Real and Scott Boulevard impeding traffic.

Upon contact, a Records check revealed the subject had a warrant for his arrest. He was arrested.

Friday, May 15, 2020

Court Order Violation

Location: 600 Block of Salberg Avenue

At approximately 1947 hours, an officer responded to the 600 block of Salberg Avenue on the report of a possible restraining order violation.

The male subject matching the reporting party’s description was located in the backyard. A Records check confirmed the no contact, criminal protective order. The subject disregarded lawful commands from officers and resisted arrest. Eventually, the subject was taken into custody and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Two officers sustained minor injuries while taking the subject into custody.

Suspicious Circumstances

Location: Multiple locations

On 5/15/20, four suspicious fires and one smoke even occurred between 1746 hours and 1954 hours within relatively close proximity throughout Santa Clara (El Camino Real near Lewis Street, El Camino Real near Halford Avenue, 2700 block of Augustine Drive, 3000 block of Raymond Street, 3000 block of Benton Street). These suspicious circumstances are under investigation.

Weapons

Location: 3700 Block of El Camino Real

Public Safety Dispatchers received a brandishing weapon call on the 3700 block of El Camino Real.

Upon arrival, a male subject matching the reporting party’s description was detained nearby. The subject provided a false name to officers. When his true name was discovered, a Records check revealed the subject had a felony warrant. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.
