Santa Clara Police Report: March 17 – 23

The Police Blotter highlights a partial list of incidents in the City and is distributed on a weekly basis. The Blotter provides the date, time, approximate location, a narrative summary of the incident, case number and the most serious arrest charge.

Meanwhile, the Arrest Log provides a timely, chronological summary of all of the arrests made by the Santa Clara Police Department. It includes the name of the suspect(s), date of birth, city in which they reside, arrest date, time, location, case number as well as all of the charge(s) associated with the arrest. This information, located on the Santa Clara Police Department’s homepage (www.scpd.org), is updated daily and serves as the most comprehensive list of arrests made.

Drug Arrest

Location:  3700 Block of El Camino Real

An officer observed a parked vehicle behind a business on the 3700 block of El Camino Real. A DMV check revealed the registration was expired. The officer initiated contact with two male subjects associated with the vehicle.

A Records check revealed the driver was on searchable probation (suspect #1). Meanwhile, the passenger was on parole (suspect #2). A search of suspect #2 yielded a controlled substance. He was arrested.

Car-Jacking

Location:  Community Recreation Center, 969 Kiely Boulevard

Public Safety Dispatchers deployed officers to the Community Recreation Center parking lot on the report of a car-jacking.

The investigation revealed an unknown suspect brandished a firearm at the victim and demanded personal property (e.g. keys, cell phone, jewelry). The suspect then entered the victim’s vehicle and fled southbound on Kiely Boulevard.

A County-wide “be-on-the-lookout” notice was disseminated. Responding officers were unsuccessful in locating the suspect(s) or the stolen vehicle.

Indecent Exposure

Location:  400 Block of N. Winchester Boulevard

Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of N. Winchester Boulevard following a report of a male subject standing on a balcony with his pants down, exposing himself. Upon officer arrival, the subject could not be located in the associated apartment.

While the officer was attempting to locate the subject, a second reporting party contacted Public Safety Dispatchers. The reporting party was walking a dog when the victim was approached by a male subject who pulled down his pants and exposed himself. The second caller’s description of the subject matched that of the initial caller.

Officers located a subject matching the reporting party’s description in the area of Monroe Street and Sunny Vista Drive in San Jose. The subject was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Stolen Vehicle

Location:  El Camino Real and Lawrence Expressway

An officer stopped at a red light on Flora Vista Avenue and Benton Street conducted a DMV registration check on a nearby vehicle. The return indicated the vehicle was reported stolen out of Las Vegas.

The officer initiated a high-risk felony traffic enforcement stop in the area of El Camino Real and Lawrence Expressway. The vehicle was driven by a sole male occupant who failed to yield to the lights and siren. The driver made aggressive moves to evade arrest which caused multiple vehicles to swerve to avoid a collision.

The driver drove through a busy shopping center and dropped the vehicle off in the adjacent residential neighborhood. Officers located the abandoned stolen vehicle and with the help of bystanders located the driver who fled on foot. He was arrested without incident and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Weapons Arrest

Location:  2000 Block of Homestead Road

An officer observed a vehicle without a license plate on the 2000 block of Homestead Road. The officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop. The vehicle was occupied by two male subjects.

A Records check revealed the driver was not licensed. A search of the vehicle produced a loaded firearm, ammunition, a controlled substance and several cell phones. Both subjects denied ownership of the firearm. They were arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Felony Vandalism

Location: 900 Block of Leith Avenue

Public Safety Dispatchers received a call for service regarding a male subject making threats and vandalizing vehicles on the 900 block of Leith Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers located three vehicles with their windshields smashed. According to witnesses, the suspect used a baseball bat to smash the windows.

The suspect was located on the 800 block of Leith Avenue and detained without incident. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Death Investigation

Location:  Kiely Boulevard and Benton Street

Public Safety Dispatchers received a call from a reporting party who observed an elderly male subject seated behind the wheel of his vehicle slumped over.

Police and Fire personnel arrived on scene, determined the victim was suffering from a medical emergency and initiated life saving measures. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no signs of trauma or foul play.

The County of Santa Clara Medical Examiner/Coroner’s Office was notified, responded to the scene and took over the investigation.

Traffic Accident – Major Injury

Location:  Lafayette Street and Memorex Drive

At approximately 2108 hours, a major injury collision occurred between a motorcycle and a vehicle. The motorcycle was traveling northbound on Lafayette Street approaching Memorex Drive, while the sedan was traveling southbound on Lafayette Street. The motorcycle rider was transported to a local hospital for several significant injuries. The intersection was closed while the investigation took place.

Driving Under the Influence

Location: Market Street and Winchester Boulevard

An officer observed a vehicle driving erratically in the area of Market Street and Winchester Boulevard. The officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop. Prior to stopping, the suspect vehicle collided with a parked car before coming to a complete stop on Market Street and Isabella Street.

Upon contact with the male driver, the officer observed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication. The suspect performed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and a preliminary alcohol screening test. The results of the test were a 0.216 blood alcohol content. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Saturday, March 23, 2019

Assault

Location: 1-100 block of Washington Street

Public Safety Dispatchers received multiple calls regarding a fight involving approximately 20 subjects in a parking lot on the 1-100 block of Washington Street. While en route, Dispatchers updated responding officers that a stabbing had occurred during the fight.

Approximately 15 male and female subjects were detained in the parking lot until officers could determine their ties, if any, to the incident. Meanwhile, officers identified four victims (two stabbed, one contusion to the head and one minor injuries). One victim was transported to a local hospital, two victims were treated on-scene by the Santa Clara Fire Department and the fourth refused medical treatment.

Investigation revealed a male among the crowd was the suspect. He was arrested.

During the investigation, a separate male subject was determined to have a $45,000 warrant. He was arrested.
