Last month, the Santa Clara Unified School District got the police involved when they received reports that a bullying incident had happened at Wilcox High School in Santa Clara on Friday, Oct. 18. The District got reports that some of the school’s varsity football players shouted homophobic slurs at a male cheerleader on the school’s cheer squad. The Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD) has closed its criminal investigation (Case number: 19-1021087).
“The Santa Clara Police Department has concluded its investigation of the incident that occurred at Wilcox High School on Friday, Oct. 18, involving a possible criminal threat to a student,” said the SCPD in a community message. “Based on the information provided by the involved parties and after careful consideration of the law, the actions of the involved students do not rise to the level of a criminal violation.
“Although not deemed criminal in nature, behavior that is hateful, threatening and mean-spirited has no place in our community.” the message continued. “The Santa Clara Police Department is committed to investigating such behavior when warranted and enforcing to the full extent of the law.”
The District has also closed their own investigation into the incident and they say they have handed down the punishments.
