The Police Blotter highlights a partial list of incidents in the city and is distributed on a weekly basis. The Blotter provides the date, time, approximate location, a narrative summary of the incident, case number and the most serious arrest charge.
Meanwhile, the Arrest Log provides a timely, chronological summary of all of the arrests made by the Santa Clara Police Department. It includes the name of the suspect(s), date of birth, city in which they reside, arrest date, time, location, case number as well as all of the charge(s) associated with the arrest. This information, located on the Santa Clara Police Department’s home page (www.scpd.org), is updated daily and serves as the most comprehensive list of arrests made.

Driving Under the Influence Location: Monroe Street and Newhall Street
An officer observed the suspect vehicle stopped in the #2 lane of Newhall Street near Monroe Street with the turn signal illuminated. After a closer look, the officer saw the suspect sleeping in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.
The officer parked the patrol vehicle in front of the suspect vehicle, put the running vehicle in park, shut off the engine and removed the keys from the ignition. The officer woke the male suspect and observed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication. The suspect did not satisfactorily performed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. The Preliminiary Alcohol Screening test revealed a 0.14% and 0.13% blood alcohol content. He was arrested.

Warrant Arrest Location: 3200 Block of El Camino Real
An officer was dispatched to the 3200 block of El Camino Real on the report of a stolen vehicle.
Upon arrival, the officer met with a male subject who wanted to report a stolen vehicle although he was not the registered owner of the vehicle. A Records check revealed the subject had a no bail misdemeanor warrant. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Resisting/Obstructing Location: 5000 Block of Great America Parkway
Public Safety Dispatchers deployed officers to the Santa Clara Convention Center, located on the 5000 block of Great America Parkway, on the report of a strong-armed robbery. During the incident, a male suspect attempted to steal a laptop from the victim’s grasp, but was unsuccessful.
While en route, the officer was advised the suspect had moved to the Hyatt Hotel and attempted to carjack a victim waiting in a vehicle in the valet area. Again, the suspect was unsuccessful.
When confronted, the suspect fled from officers and ran across the tops of several parked cars to avoid arrest, causing damage to the vehicles. The suspect resisted arrest while officers attempted to handcuff the suspect, including punching a police officer in the face. The suspect was eventually taken into custody with the assistance of an SCPD Police K-9.
The Santa Clara Fire Department was summoned to the scene to treat the suspect at the scene. He was transported to a local hospital before being booked in Santa Clara County Jail.

Resisting Arrest Location: El Camino Real and San Tomas Expressway
An officer observed a vehicle with a female driver and male passenger turn into a parking lot on El Camino Real near San Tomas Expressway. Due to the time of day and all businesses being closed, this caught the officer’s attention. The officer then witnessed the male passenger cross San Tomas Expressway against a solid red hand.
The officer initiated contact with the male subject. As the officer approached the subject, he dropped a small duffle bag and immediately began running away from the officer and toward the parking lot where the vehicle had parked. The male subject was apprehended without further incident.
A Records check revealed both subjects had outstanding warrants. The female subject also had a suspended driver’s license. Both subjects were taken into custody.

Resisting/Obstructing Location: Rip Miller Way and Monroe Street
An officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop on Rip Miller Way and Monroe Street for a cracked windshield.
A Records check revealed the driver had a suspended driver’s license. The officer asked the subject to exit the vehicle. The subject initially followed instructions, then suddently reached down toward the passenger side floorboard and threw an item over the head of the officer. The officer attempted to handcuff the subject, and the subject began fighting with the officer. The subject was apprehended, however he did bite the officer in the process. Due to his violent behavior, the subject was placed in a safety restraint device.
The subject was transported to a local hospital before being booked at the Santa Clara County Jail. The officer was treated at the scene by the Santa Clara Fire Department. The item thrown from the car was discovered to be drug paraphernalia.

Warrant Arrest Location: 1900 Block of Santa Rosa Court
An officer was dispatched to a disturbance on the 1900 block of Santa Rosa Court. While en route, Public Safety Dispatchers advised the responding officers that the male subject causing the disturbance had left the residence on a bicycle.
An arriving officer located an individual matching the suspect description on Saint Lawrence Drive near Lawrence Expressway. A Records check revealed the suspect had a $20,000 misdemeanor warrant. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Man with a Gun Location: Catala Court and Murguia Avenue
Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Catala Court on the report of a man with a gun.
Upon police arrival, a male subject presented himself to officers in the doorway with a shotgun in his hands. The subject disregarded officers instructions, retreated into the residence and closed the door.
Officers set up a perimeter around the residence and a crisis negotiation team was deployed. The male subject was contacted over the phone. He was home alone, had been drinking alcoholic beverages and was depressed. The subject denied medical help, unloaded the shotgun and went to bed.
Since no crime had been committed and the subject was not a danger to anyone in the household, per protocol, officers left the scene.
