The Police Blotter highlights a partial list of incidents in the city and is distributed on a weekly basis. The Blotter provides the date, time, approximate location, a narrative summary of the incident, case number and the most serious arrest charge.
Meanwhile, the Arrest Log provides a timely, chronological summary of all of the arrests made by the Santa Clara Police Department. It includes the name of the suspect(s), date of birth, city in which they reside, arrest date, time, location, case number as well as all of the charge(s) associated with the arrest. This information, located on the Santa Clara Police Department’s home page (www.scpd.org), is updated daily and serves as the most comprehensive list of arrests made.

Vehicle Theft
Location: 1400 Block of Isabella Street
Public Safety Dispatchers deployed resources to the 1400 block of Isabella Street due to a noise complaint coming from a suspicious vehicle.
Upon arrival, an officer observed a vehicle parked with the engine running. The officer initiated contact with the male driver. A check on the vehicle identification number discovered it had been reported stolen.
While conducting their investigation, officers discovered a motorcycle, a motorcycle helmet and clothing in the back of the vehicle. The officer immediately identified the motorcycle, helmet and clothing from a burglary flier put out on 11/1/17. The motorcycle was the getaway vehicle used in a string of burglaries in Santa Clara, and a recent pursuit with an officer (Case Numbers: 17-9552, 17-9571 and 17-9017). A check on the motorcycle vehicle identification number revealed it was stolen. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Pursuit
Location: El Camino Real and Kiely Boulevard
An officer witnessed a vehicle commit two vehicle code infractions and initiated a traffic enforcement stop in the area of Benton Street and Los Padres Boulevard. The female driver failed to yield and a pursuit ensued.
A check of the vehicle identification number revealed the vehicle was stolen out of San Jose (SJPD Case Number: 173360902). The pursuit concluded at Great America Parkway near Highway 101 when the suspect lost control of the vehicle, hit an uninvolved motorist causing minor damage and high centered on a cement median. The suspect fled on foot and was apprehended shortly thereafter.
A Records check revealed the female suspect had a suspended/revoked driver’s license, was on active probation with search and seizure terms. She also displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance. A search of her person yielded drug paraphernalia.
The suspect was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Drug Arrest
Location: Mark Avenue and Bowers Avenue
An officer conducted a check of a vehicle license plate on Mark Avenue and its registration was suspended as of 4/27/17. The officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop near Bowers Avenue.
As the officer approached the male suspect, there was a distinct odor of marijuana. A Records check revealed the male suspect had a suspended driver’s license. A search of his person yielded a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, $531 in cash and items consistent with drug sales. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Burglary Tools
Location: 1200 Block of Campbell Avenue
Santa Clara University Security witnessed a male subject jump over a fence into campus housing. Security saw the suspect loitering next to a bicycle rack adjacent to student housing. Officers arrived and made contact with the subject who displayed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication and was carrying a bag containing bolt cutters. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Traffic Accident – Major Injury
Location: 1800 Block of Andrea Place
A vehicle ran into a house on the 1800 block of Andrea Place. The suspected distracted driver drove into the kitchen at approximately 35 miles per hour. An individual was in the home, run over and transported to a local hospital with major injuries. The force of the impact blew out a window to the rear of the home and pushed the roll up garage door out, however the driver was not injured. This incident is under investigation.

Warrant Arrest
Location: Duane Avenue and Lafayette Street
An officer observed a male subject sitting in a vehicle on Duane Avenue near Lafayette Street. The vehicle had expired registration and was parked under a NO PARKING sign.
A Records check revealed he had an outstanding infraction bench warrant out of San Jose. He was arrested.

Violation of Restraining Order
Location: 3400 Block of Monroe Street
Officers responded to the 3400 block of Monroe Street after a victim reported an estranged spouse forced entry into the victim’s apartment, and brandished a baseball bat at the victim. The suspect also prevented the victim from leaving the apartment.
The victim managed to escape the apartment and the suspect chased the victim. When the victim approached a neighbor on the sidewalk for assistance, the suspect ran back to the apartment. The victim utilized the neighbor’s phone to call 9-1-1.
While en route, officers conducted a Records check on the suspect. The Records check revealed the suspect was on formal County probation and had a no-bail misdemeanor warrant from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. Records also indicated the suspect is a restrained party in a no-contact protective order with the victim.
Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect however the suspect was barricaded inside and refused to come out of the apartment for nearly four hours. Initially, patrol officers established a perimeter around the apartments and attempted to talk the suspect out of the residence. After several unsuccessful phone call attempts, officers began using a public address system to call out to the suspect. SCPD’s Special Response Team (SRT), Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT) and Domestic Violence Detectives were summoned to the scene to communicate with the suspect and attempt to gain voluntary compliance. Eventually, SRT conducted a special operation to extract the suspect from the apartment. During the arrest, the suspect resisted and fought officers. As a result, a K-9 was deployed and bit the suspect.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital for injuries sustained from the K-9. After being treated, the suspect was transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.
As a result of this incident, Monroe Street was closed between Nobili Avenue and Fordham Drive for several hours. For safety reasons, Monticello Academy and Santa Clara Christian School were placed on lockdown temporarily. SCPD was in communication with administrators at Wilcox High School throughout the incident.

Drug Arrest
Location: 3000 Block of Benton Street
An officer observed a vehicle with a taillight that was not illuminated and initiated a traffic enforcement stop on the 3000 block of Benton Street. The officer made contact with the male driver who identified himself with a driver’s license and was unable to provide proof of valid vehicle insurance. A Records check revealed his driver’s license was suspended.
During a pat search of the suspect, several pills fell out of the waistband area of the suspect. In addition, drug paraphernalia was located. The pills were identified to be Tramadol, which were not prescribed to the suspect. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Driving Under the Influence
Location: 2800 Block of Malabar Avenue
Officers were dispatched to a vehicle collision involving the suspect vehicle and an unoccupied parked vehicle on the 2800 block of Malabar Avenue. The parked vehicle was parked illegally blocking a lane of traffic.
The driver, who was later identified as a juvenile, did not have a valid driver’s license and displayed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication. The driver failed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and preliminary alcohol screening tests exhibited a 0.216 and 0.16 blood alcohol content. A search of his person yielded a controlled substance later identified as cocaine.
He was arrested and transported to Juvenile Hall.

Driving Under the Influence
Location: 200 Block of Saratoga Avenue
A reporting party contacted Public Safety Dispatchers to report a vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road. The reporting party informed Dispatchers the male suspect pulled into a parking lot on the 200 block of Saratoga Avenue and was asleep in the vehicle.
The officer deployed to the scene located a vehicle matching the reporting party’s description diagonally parked over two parking stalls with the engine running. The odor of an alcoholic beverage came from the open rear windows. The officer opened the unlocked door, turned off the engine and woke the suspect.
The officer identified the suspect by his driver’s license and facilitated the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. The suspect displayed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication and did not satisfactorily perform the tests. He was arrested and transported to the Temporary Holding Facility. The suspect submitted a breath test, resulting in a 0.13 blood alcohol content.
The suspect had three prior driving under the influence arrests, which were reduced to lesser charges.
