The Police Blotter highlights a partial list of incidents in the city and is distributed on a weekly basis. The Blotter provides the date, time, approximate location, a narrative summary of the incident, case number and the most serious arrest charge.
Meanwhile, the Arrest Log provides a timely, chronological summary of all of the arrests made by the Santa Clara Police Department. It includes the name of the suspect(s), date of birth, city in which they reside, arrest date, time, location, case number as well as all of the charge(s) associated with the arrest. This information, located on the Santa Clara Police Department’s home page (www.scpd.org), is updated daily and serves as the most comprehensive list of arrests made.

Vehicle Theft
Location: 900 Block of Shulman Avenue
Officers responded to the 900 block of Shulman Avenue on the report of an in-progress theft of a vehicle. A vehicle matching the description of the stolen vehicle was located in the area of El Camino Real and Accolti Way driving on the grass near the basketball arena on the Santa Clara University campus. An officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop, but the driver failed to yield.
The pursuit led officers through Sunnyvale and into Cupertino. During the pursuit, the suspect was on a cell phone. Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Deputies were able to utilize spike strips to deflate the suspect vehicle’s front right tire however, the suspect continued to flee. Eventually, the suspect stopped on Melvin Drive, near Cynthia Avenue in San Jose. The suspect was given multiple commands to exit the vehicle but refused to obey officer’s orders.
A K-9 was deployed however the suspect continued to resist arrest. Eventually, he was taken into custody. A Record check revealed the suspect had a suspended driver’s license and was on Post Release Community Supervision. The suspect displayed symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance and admitted to using heroin earlier in the evening. A search of his property yielded a controlled substance. He was transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Brandishing
Location: 3500 Block of Granada Avenue
Officers were dispatched to the 3500 block of Granada Avenue on the report of a male suspect who was near the mailboxes of an apartment complex on the 3500 Granada Avenue when a resident came down to retrieve mail. The suspect removed a hatchet from his backpack, smashed the clear window of a fire extinguisher cabinet and turned toward the victim. Fearing for their safety, the victim ran away from the suspect.
An individual matching the suspect’s description was located in Sunnyvale and stopped by the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety. The suspect was positively identified by the victim in an in-field show-up. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Location: 2600 Block of Forbes Avenue
An unknown suspect(s) stole a vehicle from the 2600 block of Forbes Avenue. Upon officer arrival, two additional stolen vehicles were reported on Barto Street and Toyon Drive. The suspect(s) remain at large.

Vandalism
Location: 2900 Block of Homestead Road
An officer was dispatched to the 2900 block of Homestead Road on the report of multiple car break-ins. Upon officer arrival, broken glass could be seen on the sidewalk and in the gutters. The reporting party was a victim of vandalism, however nothing was missing from the vehicle.
In total, officers took twelve (12) similar reports on Homestead Road, Lochinvar Avenue and Malabar Avenue. All of the cases involved window smashes, but property was only taken from one of the vehicles.

Burglary
Location: 1800 Block of Pruneridge Avenue
Public Safety Dispatchers deployed an officer to the 1800 block of Pruneridge Avenue on the report of a suspicious vehicle driving in a parking lot with its lights off. Upon contact, the officer detained the female passenger, however, the driver was not inside the vehicle. A return on the vehicle advised it was stolen out of Cupertino. A search of a bag belonging to the female suspect yielded numerous checks and credit cards with a variety of different names, counterfeit cash and burglary tools. She was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail. The stolen vehicle was recovered.
Meanwhile, a secondary officer arrived on scene and located a male suspect carrying property in the carport area of the complex. The suspect fled the scene dropping several items in the process. The suspect was able to evade capture. It was determined the tools dropped by the suspect belonged to the apartment complex. The door lock and frame to the tool shop was damaged and had been forced open. The stolen items were returned to the property manager.
Officers provided individuals in the area with a description of the suspect at large.
At approximately 1112 hours, witnesses contacted Public Safety Dispatchers to report an individual matching the male suspect’s description. The suspect had come out of a manhole, ran through the property and climbed a nearby fence.
While en route, an officer was approached by a female subject on Fernwood Avenue in San Jose regarding a male suspect in her back yard. According to the female subject, the male suspect was between the branches of a lemon tree and told her he had climbed her tree from the neighbors’ yard to pick fruit. The female subject told the male suspect he could not be in her yard. He ran through the yard and exited a side gate.
The suspect was eventually located and arrested without further incident. He was transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Location: 3900 Block of Rivermark Plaza
Using a mobile computer, an officer conducted a registration check on a vehicle on the 3900 block of Rivermark Plaza. The officer discovered the registration was expired as of 7/24/17, however the vehicle displayed a July, 2018 registration tab.
The officer made contact with the male occupant in the vehicle and informed him of the reason for the contact. The subject was the registered owner of the vehicle and admitted he knew his registration was expired, and that he had removed a 2018 registration tab from another vehicle and placed it on his vehicle to avoid being stopped by the police. He was issued a citation with a Notice to Appear and released from the scene.

NOTE: A large gathering of cars and pedestrians filled up the parking lot at El Camino Real and Lawrence Expressway, and Public Safety Dispatchers received calls from individuals passing by of racing activity. Officers arrived on scene and gained cooperation from the group to clear the area.

Warrant Arrest
Location: 3400 Block of Lafayette Street
An officer initiated consensual contact with a female subject in a parking lot on the 3400 block of Lafayette Street. A vehicle registration check determined it expired in 2016. A Records check revealed the subject had been reported missing out of Antioch, had two warrants $25,000 out of Brentwood and $15,000 out of Mountain View) for her arrest. The subject advised the officer she had methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in her vehicle. She was placed under arrest and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.
