The Prolific Oven

The Prolific Oven announced it would be closing its Santa Clara and Palo Alto locations on Aug. 24. A letter posted to the restaurant’s Facebook page stated the closure was in part due to the “continual rising costs of doing business in the ever-changing Bay Area, while batting a severe shortage of skilled employees.” The restaurant’s struggle with the raise in Sunnyvale’s minimum wage was reported earlier this year.
St. Justin Thrift Store
2655 Homestead Rd., Santa Clara
The St. Justin Thrift Store is set to close in September. The store’s Facebook page has not been updated since December 2018, but information about the closure is available in a recent Yelp review.
Avenue
575 E El Camino Real, Sunnyvale
The plus sized women’s fashion retailer has begun liquidating assets at its Sunnyvale store. No exact closing date is available, but the company recently announced it filed for bankruptcy and would be closing 222 stores in 33 states this year. Customers can currently save on all in stock items.

Cooking Papa Express
2830 Homestead Rd, Santa Clara
Cooking Papa made its return to Santa Clara on Aug. 26 and have rebranded. The restaurant closed temporarily in July due to the renovations.
Winx Lash & Brow Bar
1190 Homestead Rd., Santa Clara
Formerly Belleza Day Spa, the salon has the same owner, same location, same service and menu. Just a new name and logo.
Chaat Junction
954 El Camino Real, Sunnyvale
Chaat Junction, a food stand looking to bring the roadside chaat experience of India to Sunnyvale opened just outside Thali Restaurant on El Camino Real on Aug. 16. The stand is currently open Fridays and Saturdays from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Sundays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Pop Plug
2054 El Camino Real, Santa Clara
The Pop Plug recently opened inside The Fix Kicks at the Santa Clara Town Centre. As the store name suggests, The Pop Plug features a large selection of Funko Pop! collectibles.
Vince
Santana Row, San Jose
The luxury retailer will open a Santana Row location this summer. Vince offers women’s and men’s clothes, shoes, handbags, and home fit for a global lifestyle. The store will be in a 2,378-square-foot space located next to the newly expanded Lululemon.

Barry’s Bootcamp
Santana Row, San Jose
Barry’s Bootcamp will open a 4,454 square foot studio at Santana Row this year and will host a two-hour, pop-up fitness class in Santana Row park on Thursday, Sept. 12 from 5 – 7 p.m. This will be the first Barry’s Bootcamp in the South Bay. Other locations are in San Francisco, Palo Alto and Burlingame.
Casper
Santana Row, San Jose
Casper will bring its award-winning foam mattresses to Santana Row this fall with a new retail location. The Casper Sleep Store joins the company’s San Francisco location, although mattresses are available at both the Santa Clara and Sunnyvale Target stores.
Whole Foods & AMC Theatre
CityLine Sunnyvale
Whole Foods signed a lease for a CityLine site and is expected to open in late 2019, according to Sunnyvale’s website. An AMC movie theater, which will be located above Whole Foods, is also planned to open in late 2019.
