In this tense time when many of us are confined in our homes with little to do, I would encourage anyone to take a look at their closet for anything that could use a little alteration and pick up a needle and thread.
Like many other high schoolers, I’ve fallen into rabbit holes of niche YouTube videos. One of the most fruitful rabbit holes I’ve been through is sewing videos, which prompted me to learn this skill. It has been invaluable—suddenly, all the tiny holes in my clothes have been getting mended as soon as they appear, and the fraying edges of my buttonholes were getting finished properly.
I find that there’s something incredibly empowering about knowing how to tweak my wardrobe. As more gatherings shut down and cabin fever settles in, picking up a practical skill like sewing could help us cope with the complex emotions that surround us.
