Letter From Nick Dellaporta

During Santa Clara’s annual “Spring Cleaning” I see piles of recyclable and salvageable items on the street. There is no good rationale for dumping anything on the curb for someone else to take away. Most everything that residents dump at the curb will be unnecessarily thrown into a landfill. Dumping anything out on the curb is, frankly, irresponsible and lazy.

Residents must take responsibility for THEIR belongings. If you no longer want something and it’s still useable, take it to a second hand store like Goodwill or the Salvation Army, or any agency that accepts used items, even those in need of repair. Anything else, even items that you might not think of as recyclable, can and should be recycled. But first, REDUCE and reuse!
