I hear some arguing that the recall of Judge Persky will impact poor communities more harshly and I have to disagree. I oppose mandatory sentencing as it disproportionately impacts the poor and marginalized. Persky’s judgement in the Stanford Brock Turner case was so terrible, laws were changed to give minimum sentences to perpetrators of sexual assault. He is a threat to economically disadvantaged communities. We need judges with sound judgement. That’s why I supported the recall and am glad voters elected Cindy Hendrickson to do a better job.
