The proposed development of the Santa Clara Golf Course into a “Santana” style complex is a bad idea. Open space is and has been a major concern, and with new housing already built on the North Side stressing high density, existing open space has been severely compromised. The golf course is one of the last remaining open spaces in the city, and it is well used as such. If development on the North Side is desired, there are many acres of previously developed areas that are now devoid of structures as they have all been torn down. There are also a great number of empty buildings that should be considered for redevelopment before any permanent paving over a dump. The golf course must remain as a golf course. If the council is bent on converting a golf course into business, consider the Pruneridge Golf Course first.
