I would like to publicly thank Santa Clara Fire Chief William Kelly for helping St. Justin Parish and School develop emergency/disaster plans. Over the past couple of years, he has provided us with templates on which to build our emergency plan and advice to help us focus on realistic situations, avoiding adding scenarios that included meteors falling and the Lexington Dam collapsing. On Saturday, February 16th Chief Kelly facilitated a drill based on a scenario of a 6.7 earthquake occurring on a Sunday morning when 500 people were in our church. Over 60 parish volunteers took part. He reviewed our procedures, evaluated the drill, and provided us with specific feedback and steps we could take to improve.
