Letter From Craig Moorhead

I’ve recently heard of instances where businesses are being targeted with new government regulations as an easy way to seek tax revenue for federal and state governments. As a small business owner, working to support my family, the flexibility of working with independent contractors is critical to my future.

Just because we often don’t log a typical 9-to-5 day, both independent contractors and small business owners regularly work harder and longer. It’s often a one-man show to get the job done, and done right. Now self-employed people, earning modest incomes, find themselves hounded by regulation, and demonizing an entire workforce because of a few bad actors is not right. This only discourages people from self-employment at a time when we should be promoting economic opportunity.

California claims to be a business-friendly state, but piling on unnecessary regulations at a time when the economy is already suffering is detrimental to our entrepreneurial spirit and our economy.
