Homelessness in Santa Clara – Letter to the Editor

Homlessness in Santa Clara is still an issue, despite all the policies that have been implemented to combat it. With COVID-19, it is more important than ever to come up with policies that will reduce the amount of homeless people on the street.

One reason that this is still an issue is because many policies only focus on solving the effects of homelessness, like AB 1745, which requires homeless people to be placed in affordable housing units.

One of the root causes of homelessness is the housing shortage. If more policies were made that allow cities to build more affordable housing units, not only would it add more housing options for poor families and prevent them from becoming homeless, but it will also lower housing costs in the long run.
