Empowering the Less Privileged – Letter to the Editor

Reading The Great Gatsby for my English class reminds me that our society needs to have those close to real world problems to be in positions of power. The challenge of using wealth to gain privileges has always existed. Even in 1925 when the book was published, the rich were able to solve problems with their money. For example, there was a scene when Gatsby was speeding and got pulled over by a law enforcement officer. After he revealed his privileged identity to the police, he was let go without any punishment for his violation. Even though this was unethical, but it happened.

This further demonstrates the importance of empowering those who are less privileged to take on positions of power.
