It’s a Lunar New Year Spectacular

Around the world people celebrate Lunar New Year, also known as Spring Festival. It’s a time for new beginnings and a time for people to gather. At Santa Clara’s Northside Branch Library, staff opened their doors to give the community an opportunity to welcome the year of the rat together.

The weather was lovely, so the spectacular celebration opened with a lion dance performed by Buu Kim Tu, the Dragon and Lion Dance Association of San Jose. The Crystal Jade Choir also performed for library guests.

Inside the library, crafty children were invited to make lanterns. After crafting the lantern, they lit them up for a beautiful effect.

The family-friendly party also closed with another lion dance. And, just next door, the Santa Clara Police Department’s Northside Open House beckoned some to learn more about the location and SCPD. The Santa Clara City Library on Homestead Road is also hosting a Lunar New Year celebration on Saturday, Jan. 18 starting at 10:30 a.m.
