On Dec. 30, 2020 at approximately 10:37 p.m., the San Jose Police Department (SJPD) was following up on an investigation in the City of Santa Clara. During the follow-up investigation, SJPD officers witnessed an exchange of gunfire between unknown individuals and an occupied vehicle near the intersection of Kiely Boulevard and Ruth Court.
SJPD officers immediately acted by following the fleeing vehicle, which was later determined to be stolen, while notifying the Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD).
Given the nature of the incident, Santa Clara Police Department’s Special Response and Crisis Negotiation Teams were activated. A residence on Ruth Court was determined to be associated to the shooting. SCPD investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence. The warrant was served peacefully with cooperation from the residents.
The subsequent investigation revealed that over 20 rounds of gunfire was exchanged between the two groups, resulting in damage to property only. The motive of the shooting is still under investigation.
