The Santa Clara Fire Department brought holiday cheer to residents of the city on the nights of Dec. 19, 21 and 23. The Santa Clara fire trucks and engines decorated with lights from local Fire Department stations drove slowly along the streets in their areas. They handed out candy canes to children who were waiting along the route.
According to the department website, the Holiday Cheer Campaign is the department’s way to “…safely and responsibly connect with our community during this holiday season. We are aware that the holidays can be tough for many and we believe that providing this small way to uplift our community fosters good faith between the Fire Department and Santa Clara citizens. All fire units will continue to stay ready for emergency calls.”

For the children that were outside, they were excited to see the Santa Clara fire trucks.
“It’s so neat to see the fire truck,” said Julia, 7.
Marcus, her father added, “It’s cold and it’s raining so it’s especially nice that they’re doing this. When we told our kids the fire trucks would be driving down our street, they were so excited.”
