Council Member Pat Kolstad received the Spence Vanderlinden Public Official Award at the American Public Power Association’s national conference in New Orleans, LA on June 19/
This award recognizes elected or appointed local officials who have contributed to the goals of the American Public Power Association (APPA).
The APPA is described as the voice of not-for-profit, community-owned utilities that power 2,000 towns and cities nationwide. They advocate and advise on electricity policy, technology, trends, training and operations.
Kolstad has been active in the APPA for more than 16 years. He has helped Silicon Valley Power become a nationally recognized leader. He has advocated for public power on the federal level — often traveling to Washington, D.C. to participate in the APPA’s Legislative Rally. He advocates with members of the Bay Area Congressional Delegation. He encourages his fellow City Council Members, City staff and fellow commissioners for the Northern California Power Agency to participate in the Association’s conferences and stay on top of public power policy issues.
