Council Goal Setting Program – Public Input Sought

On Saturday, March 12, the City Council will hold their Goal Setting Program at the Santa Clara Convention Center, 5001 Great America Parkway from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.. The purpose of the program is to review the accomplishments made on the 2009 to 2011 Council Principles and Priorities, as well as to identify on-going efforts initiated in that timeframe and to establish, reaffirm and update their Principles and Priorities for 2011 to 2013.

Council Goal Setting Committee Members Patricia Mahan, Jamie McLeod and Mayor Jamie Matthews met on February 16 to plan the agenda for the goal setting program, which will be facilitated by Dr. Marilyn Manning. In addition to attendance by the Mayor, City Council and Dr. Manning, City Clerk/City Auditor Rod Diridon, Jr., Assistant City Attorney Alexander Abbe, Acting Assistant City Manager Carol McCarthy and City Manager Jennifer Sparacino will also be present.

Items on the agenda include an overview of major City Accomplishments for Council Principles and Priorities for 2009 to 2011 with a focus on continuing programs and projects including challenges facing the City as well as opportunities; comments from members of the public and community attendees concerning ideas for Council Goals (with a limit of one minute per person); presentations by individual council members of their vision for the City and Priority Goals for 2011 to 2013; and a discussion and priority setting as well as public presentations.

The Council adopted the 2009 to 2011 Principles and Priorities which included: Demonstrating Environmental Leadership; Exceptional Services and Fiscal Responsibility; Connect with Community; and Pro-active Economic Development and Entertainment.
