Case of the Week – One of SCPD’s Largest Methamphetamine Busts in Department History

On August 23, 2017, Special Enforcement Team Detectives were in the area of The Alameda and University Avenue conducting surveillance. The Detectives observed a male suspect who matched the description of an individual they were seeking with outstanding felony warrants and two counts of formal probation with search terms. While conducting surveillance, the suspect entered and exited a hotel room on three occasions.

In the meantime, another male suspect (#2) arrived in the hotel parking lot. Suspect #2 joined suspect #1 in the hotel room. Shortly thereafter, suspect #1 left the hotel room carrying a white shopping bag and placed the bag in his vehicle. At that time, the Detectives entered the hotel parking lot and apprehended suspect #1 for his outstanding felony warrants and to conduct a probation search.

During a probation search of suspect #1’s vehicle, the Detectives observed a large quantity of methamphetamine.

Suspect #2’s wallet contained $4,093 in cash.

Both suspects were arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail. In total, 17 pounds of methamphetamine, $28,254 in cash, a loaded semi-automatic handgun and drug paraphernalia were seized from the vehicle, hotel room and on their person.
