Wilcox Ace Geremy McCollough Leads by Example

Wilcox High School senior Geremy McCollough played football and was also looking forward to playing baseball, but th season may not happen.

Wilcox senior Geremy McCollough was hoping he would have two senior seasons going into this school year. While he was able to help lead the football team as the starting quarterback in the fall, his senior baseball season appears in jeopardy from being able to finish due to the current global pandemic. The 6’4” right-hander is the team’s ace pitcher. He features a two-seam, four-seam, curveball, slider and a changeup.

“I’m pretty aggressive, I like to attack the zone and get out ahead of batters,” remarked McCollough on his style of pitching. “I’m very competitive, I take my time on the mound personally, it’s a one-on-one battle out there.”

While McCollough certainly hopes his Wilcox career isn’t yet over, if the baseball season can’t continue, the next time he will take the mound might be as a member of the Mission College Saints. That’s where McCollough says he’s leaning towards playing and studying next year.

“I wanna study either business economics or political science,” noted the senior. “Hopefully playing at Mission can lead me to getting a scholarship somewhere.”

If McCollough has thrown his final pitch for Wilcox, the next time the Wilcox baseball team takes the field, they will be without one of their most respected leaders of the past few seasons.

“Geremy is our leader on the mound. He wants the ball every chance he gets,” remarked Chargers Head Coach Matthew Huth. “He’s always been an easy-going guy, but extremely hard working and a team-driven guy.”

Once his high school days are over, McCollough says that he will miss the bonds formed with his teammates the most.

“Pretty much my whole life, most of my closest relationships have been built through sports,” acknowledged the senior. “You build a special bond with teammates that you don’t really have with anyone else.”
