As part of USA Swimming’s Grand Prix Series, swimming elite Ryan Lochte, Michael Phelps and Natalie Coughlin among other members of the US and Australian National Teams will be hitting the water at the 44th Annual Santa Clara International Swim Meet June 16-19.
Santa Clara Swim Club’s own Russell Payne, an Olympic hopeful for the 2012 London games, will be competing in the 100 meter backstroke, 200 meter individual medley, and 400 meter individual medley against the best swimmers around for a spot on the podium.
Heats begin at 9 a.m. with the finals at 5 p.m. and the events begin on Thursday, June 16 with the men’s and women’s 1500 meter freestyle. On Friday, the men and women will compete in the 100 meter freestyle, 200 meter breaststroke, 400 meter freestyle, 100 meter fly, and 400 meter free relay. Saturday will showcase the men’s and women’s 400 meter individual medley, 200 meter freestyle, 200 meter backstroke, 50 meter freestyle and 800 meter free relay and the events wrap up Sunday with the men’s and women’s 200 meter fly, 100 meter breaststroke, 100 meter backstroke, 200 meter individual medley, 800 meter freestyle and 400 meter medley relay.
An all session pass for all four days of competition is $25. Final session passes are $8 per day. All tickets can be purchased through www.santaclaraswimclub.org. Tickets can be purchased with cash only on the day of the event.
