Updated Election Results 2020: Santa Clara City Council, Sunnyvale Mayor, Sunnyvale City Council, School Board & More

It’s been over a week since election night and counting continues but let’s revisit the unofficial election results for the local elections and see where things stand. These results are as of Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 5 p.m. with the ballot counting progress at 92 percent.

 

Santa Clara City Council, District 1

Incumbent Kathy Watanabe has secured her lead in Santa Clara’s District 1. Currently, Watanabe has 53.88 percent, while challenger Harbir Bhatia earned 46.12 percent.

Santa Clara City Council, District 4

Kevin Park has maintained a strong lead to represent Santa Clara’s District 4. Park has 57.58 percent of the votes and incumbent Teresa O’Neill has 42.42 percent.

 

Santa Clara City Council, District 5

Suds Jain has held on to an early lead to represent Santa Clara’s District 5. Jain has 60.74 percent while his opponent, Bob O’Keefe, has 39.26 percent of the votes.

 

Santa Clara City Council, District 6

Anthony Becker has a tight grip on a significant lead over Robert Mezzetti. When it comes to Santa Clara’s District 6, Becker has 40.45 percent, Mezzetti has 36.70 percent, and Gautam (aka Gary) Barve has 22.86 percent.

 

Measure E

Santa Clara’s Measure E definitely caught the favor of voters. It currently has 73.50 percent of the ‘yes’ votes. Measure E allows the City to raise transient occupancy tax (TOT) from 9.5 percent to 13.5 percent for hotel stays not exceeding 30 days.

 

Sunnyvale Mayor

As of today, current Mayor Larry Klein has maintained a lead with 36.30 percent of the votes. Their opponents follow with 33.49 percent of the votes for Nancy Smith and Michael Goldman with 30.20 percent.

 

Sunnyvale City Council, District 2

Alysa Cisneros, with 53.61 percent of the vote, has maintained a strong lead to represent District 2. Josh Grossman follows with 33.02 percent and Hina Siddiqui has 13.37 percent.

 

Sunnyvale City Council, District 4

As of today, current Sunnyvale Council Member Russ Melton has maintained a strong lead with 71.36 percent of the vote, while challenger Paul Joseph Lesevic-Campos has 26.64 percent.

 

Sunnyvale City Council, District 6

Omar Din has maintained a good lead with 43.17 percent over the competition. Charlotte Thornton currently has 32.74 percent, while Leia Mehlman has 24.09 percent.

 

Santa Clara Unified School District Board of Trustees, Trustee Area 2

In Santa Clara Unified’s 2nd Trustee Area, Bonnie Lieberman has kept her lead with 41.36 percent of the vote and current Board Member Albert Gonzalez follows with 38.73 percent. Current Board Clerk Mark Richardson trails with 19.91 percent. Two of these candidates will be welcomed to the Board.

 

Santa Clara Unified School District Board of Trustees, Trustee Area 3

Current Santa Clara Unified School Board President Dr. Michele Ryan has kept up her lead with 53.62 percent as of press time while Andrew Knaack has 46.38 percent. Whoever wins will be representing Trustee Area 3.

 

As of publication, voter turnout in Santa Clara County was 80.57 percent. Results are updated daily on the Santa Clara Registrar of Voters’ website.
