Two Ejected From Vehicle in Fatal Traffic Collision

At about 1:27 a.m. this morning, there was a fatal traffic collision involving one vehicle near the intersection of Cabrillo Avenue and Fordham Drive in Santa Clara, according to the Santa Clara Police Department.

A black Honda Fit, traveling eastbound on Cabrillo Avenue at a high rate of speed, struck parked cars along the 3300 block of Cabrillo Avenue (Case Number: 19-7080009). The two occupants of the Honda were ejected from the vehicle.

A 29-year-old male, who is a San Leandro resident, was transported to Valley Medical Center where he is in critical condition. A 25-year old female, who is a San Leandro resident was transported to Valley Medical Center. The female was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Traffic investigators are working on identifying which party was driving. It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were involved.

Cabrillo Avenue was closed between Fordham Drive and Nobili Avenue until about 10 a.m. this morning.

Update: On July 10, the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office identified the deceased female as Alyssa Funes.
