Triton Holds Midsummer Art Celebration

With near perfect weather, hundreds of art lovers visited the Triton Museum of Art for its annual Midsummer Art Celebration on June 23.

Held every year in June, the Midsummer Art Celebration allows local artists to sell their work in a format very similar to the Santa Clara Arts and Wine Festival. Tents and stands aligned the grassy area behind the museum, allowing visitors to leisurely stroll the grounds while enjoying the outdoors.

“We have approximately 90 vendors who are selling their wares and we hope the community comes out to support them,” said Carmen Pascual, visitor service associate at the Triton.

“We have some wine by Bob Nugent (Imagery Estate Winery) and we’re also offering the Triton mugs and wine glasses that have the Triton name etched in them,” continued Pascual. “We have the museum open with the three exhibits, the museum store, and Santa Clara Sister Cities is offering lunches – hot dogs and hamburgers.”

As visitors made their rounds through the art fair, they were greeted with a wide variety of art. The Triton’s Amanda McDonough brought her jewelry creations to sell, while San Jose artist Charles Rogers’ booth contained paintings of both African dancers and Ray Charles. Future Triton exhibitor David Stonesifer of Los Gatos brought a preview of what will be seen in his solo show, while Santa Clara artist Donna Orme came with collage and acrylic monotype pieces and was willing to explain her process to anyone who asked. Los Gatos resident Evelyn J. Miller vended her ceramic pieces and photographer Youssef Ismail was selling his amazing photography – all taken on a large format 4×5 camera and offered to visitors at affordable name-your-own pricing.

“We have a really nice variety,& said Pascual. “It’s not just one type [of art].”

In addition to paintings, sculpture, jewelry, and photography, the Midsummer Art Celebration gave the Triton the opportunity to promote its other offerings. The information booth contained details on the museum’s extended summer classes for adults and children as well as its fall classes for adults. The museum also used the event to let the public know the Triton as well as the Jamison-Brown House are available to rent for weddings, parties and other special celebrations.

All proceeds from the event benefited Santa Clara Sister Cities and the Triton Museum of Art.

The Triton is at 1505 Warburton Avenue in Santa Clara. For additional information on the museum, classes, and rental facilities visit www.tritonmuseum.org.
