Sunnyvale Community Services Welcomes Hiroko Odaka as Director of Operations

Hiroko Odaka has joined the organization as Director of Operations for Sunnyvale Community Services (www.svcommunityservices.org). In her new position, Odaka is responsible for managing and distributing over two million pounds of healthy food, backpacks and household essentials and overseeing all facilities to serve more than 9,000 low-income residents each year.

Odaka brings experience in the both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors to her new position. During her 25-year career with Intel, first in her native country of Japan and then in Silicon Valley, she held such positions as Program Manager and Business Operations Manager. Throughout that time, Odaka also devoted numerous hours to volunteering for human services organizations such as Second Harvest, Sacred Heart Community Service and CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Silicon Valley.

“We are delighted that Hiroko has followed her passion and made a career shift to nonprofit work,” said Sunnyvale Community Services Executive Director Marie Bernard.  “As a Sunnyvale resident, she has tracked our organization’s work for many years. We are grateful that her excellent training and experience at Intel will now benefit Sunnyvale Community Services and the community.”

Odaka is a graduate of the University of Washington with a degree in International Studies. She also enjoys spending time with friends and family, cooking Japanese food, and reading. Her daughter attends college in Birmingham, Alabama.
