Sunnyvale Community Players Welcome New Artistic Director Kevin Surace

Sunnyvale Community Players (SCP) announced their new Artistic Director, Kevin Surace.

He has produced, music directed, designed sound, produced video, marketed, and played percussion in over 60 productions around the Bay Area. Surace has worked with SCP since 1996 in various capacities — including recently music directing Shrek the MusicalFiddler on the RoofAddams FamilyGreaseFreaky Friday (2020) and also co-producing The Wiz. He has extensive sound design experience and holds an Engineering degree from Rochester Institute of Technology with a concentration in music.

Surace has worked with most South Bay theaters including WVLO, SBMT, and PYT and was also music director for 20 years for the St. Lawrence Academy musical theater program, conducting live orchestras and designing sound for over 20 musicals. His national professional credits include, writing, producing, and directing 2AM At The Sands with Broadway star Andrew Samonsky (and producing and mixing the album for Broadway Records), conducting the Redlands Symphony Orchestra, producing and conducting the popular Christmas at the Cathedral “Musical Theater Orchestra and Singers,” and producing and conducting the “Broadway and More” show around the country with acclaimed jazz singer Nicole Henry.

He is currently involved in co-producing and investing in shows on Broadway with WitzEnd Theatricals, including Diana: A True Musical Story opening on Broadway in March 2020. In addition to his theater resume, Surace has been awarded 85 patents worldwide, including the invention of soundproof drywall, used in virtually all recording studios.

“I am excited to take on the role of Artistic Director at Sunnyvale Community Players,” said Surace. “With many entertainment choices, the quality and value of our productions needs to continue to grow, while maintaining our community spirit and pride.

“Working with our board, I hope to bring additional energy to our offering, expand with more entertainment options, excite our audiences, and continue to give South Peninsula theatergoers a fantastic night out at a great price, without the need to travel to San Francisco or even San Jose.”
