The Sunnyvale Community Players (SCP) invite you to experience the infamous tale of Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife.
Directed by Thomas Times with vocal direction from Stacy Levin and musical direction from Val Zvinysdatskovsky, the story follows Todd’s path of revenge as it intertwines with Mrs. Lovett, the resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop.
Above her shop, Todd establishes a new barber practice. And while Mrs. Lovett’s fortune rises – drawing crowds from all over London – Todd’s bloodlust soon reveals the actual ingredients of those coveted meat pies.
Still, the carnage has only just begun in this musical directed by Thomas Times and choreographed by Daelyn Cerutti.
As the twisted tale unfolds, Judge Turpin reveals a not-so-innocent obsession with the wife of a London barber. As a result, the judge banishes him to Australia for a crime he didn’t commit.
Fifteen years later, our protagonist, now known as Sweeney Todd, is consumed by madness and returns to London. But this time, his razor isn’t used only for a close shave but to wield revenge on his unwitting customers where their remains find a final resting place in Mrs. Lovett’s pie shop.
While many meet their fate at Todd’s hands, his ultimate target is Turpin.
The performance, written by playwright Hugh Wheeler, features the haunting music and lyrics of Stephen Sondheim. This dark and delicious masterpiece features unforgettable songs including “The Ballad of Sweeney Todd,” “Johanna” and “Pretty Women”.
Attend this thrilling tale, where the songs and plot promise a blood-curdling good time. Performances run from Oct. 28 through Nov. 12 at the Sunnyvale Theatre, located inside the Sunnyvale Community Center at 550 East Remington Drive.
