SummerHill Apartment Communities celebrated the beginning of construction for its Villas On The Boulevard apartment homes with a groundbreaking ceremony on Oct. 8.

The luxury residential rental community designed by KTGY, taking up parcels formerly housed by El Real Nursery and Russell’s Furniture at 2611 El Camino Real between Bowers and San Tomas along Saratoga Creek at Bowe Avenue, will help the City achieve its vision for El Camino Real.

Among those attending the ceremony were Mayor Jamie Matthews, Vice Mayor Jerry Marsalli, Council Member Pat Kolstad, City Manager Julio Fuentes, Convention Center GM Steve Van Dorn and SummerHill Apartment Communities President & CEO Robert Freed.

Russell’s owners Eleanor and Richard Rusnak will open a new Russell’s Furniture store in November at the corner of Lafayette Street and Walsh Avenue.

Villas On The Boulevard will provide 186 apartment homes in a 4-story residential building over a 1-story partially subterranean garage. The El Camino Real frontage will also include a new widened sidewalk with street trees and landscaping.

The building’s design is rooted in Mission style architecture, which the City of Santa Clara and El Camino Real are known for. One and two bedroom floor plans will be available.

The property is a block from the proposed VTA Bus Rapid Transit Bowers Station and within walking distance to grocery stores, retail and services. The first units are scheduled for completion in fall 2016, with pre-leasing in late summer 2016.
