John McVay to be Inducted into Edward J. DeBartolo, Sr. 49ers Hall of Fame
The San Francisco 49ers and the York family recently announced that John McVay will be the 24th inductee into the Edward J. DeBartolo, Sr. 49ers Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony, held October 12, will honor McVay for his outstanding achievements and contributions to the 49ers organization. Additionally, he will be recognized during halftime of the 49ers contest against the Arizona Cardinals on October 13.

“John played an integral role in the great success our franchise has achieved, helping to construct teams responsible for five Super Bowl victories,” said 49ers Chief Executive Officer Jed York. “His knowledge of the game and coaching experience allowed him to develop a great partnership with both Bill Walsh and George Seifert that was evident in the team’s performance on the field. John’s commitment and contributions to the 49ers helped to form the rich tradition we strive to carry on today.”

McVay joined the 49ers in 1979 as the team’s director of player personnel and went on to spend 21 seasons in all with the franchise. Among the many roles he filled throughout his tenure, McVay served as vice president and general manager from 1983-94 before retiring in 1995. He rejoined the franchise in 1999 and served as vice president/director of football operations through the 2003 season.
