Santa Clara University Men’s Soccer Loses
The Broncos fell 2-1 in double overtime to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville on Aug. 31. Five minutes into the second half, a hard tackle by sophomore Max Ornstil led to a red card. A minute after the card was issued, senior Carlos Montes scored the lone goal for Santa Clara. SCU plays at Washington Sept. 3 (after press time) before hosting Stanford University on Sept. 7 at 7 p.m.

Santa Clara University Women’s Soccer Wins Twice
In the first home game of the regular season, the Broncos beat Long Beach State 4-0 on Aug. 30. Senior Morgan Marlborough scored within the first minute of play, before assisting senior Julie Johnston on Santa Clara’s second goal less than a minute later. Johnston scored again in the 13th minute and freshman Mariana Galvan picked up the team’s fourth goal in the 86th minute of the match. SCU then beat Fresno State on Aug. 31 in an overtime thriller where Johnston scored in the 96th minute. Santa Clara hosts Maryland Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.

Santa Clara University Volleyball Loses Once, Wins Twice
After dropping its season opener 3-0 (23-25, 22-25, 24-26) to CSU Northridge on Aug. 30, the Broncos bounced back to claim a 3-2 (30-32, 25-22, 25-19, 20-25, 15-10) victory over Fresno State and 3-1 (25-12, 19-25, 25-17, 26-24) win over Rice on Aug. 31. Senior Megan Anders led the team with 13 kills and five blocks in the loss to CSU Northridge. Anders also led the team against Fresno State with 16 kills and six blocks. Freshman Nikki Hess scored a team-high 14 kills and nine digs in the win over Rice. SCU plays UCLA at Hawaii on Sept. 5.

Santa Clara University Cross Country Participates in USF Invitational
SCU Men finished fourth and women seventh at the USF Invitational on Aug. 31. Junior Kelly Ryan was the top finishing female Bronco with 19:35 (36th place) for the 5k course. Junior Sean Roe finished first for the men in 24th place with a time of 26:52 for the 8k race. Santa Clara will run at the Saint Mary’s Dual Meet on Sept. 6 in Sunnyvale.

SCU Men’s Basketball Announces Cable Car Classic Lineup
On Aug. 28 Santa Clara University announced the field for the 47th Annual Cable Car Classic. In addition to SCU, North Dakota State, Rice and Rider will participate. This year, the event will take place Nov. 29-30.
