Wilcox Girls Basketball Continues Strong Season
After reaching the CCS Division Open division semi-final championship last season and competing in the CIF State championships, the Lady Chargers (6-1) are emulating last season and are on-track to once again contend for a strong playoff run. Their sixth win of the season came on Dec. 17 when they bested Piedmont Hills 60-42. The Chargers stormed to a 39-18 halftime lead. Junior Morgan Ratliff led the team with 17 points with junior D’Airrien Jackson adding 12, senior Joeseta Fatuesi 11 and senior Caitlin Brown adding nine (all from three-point range). Next up for the Chargers is the Del Mar Holiday tournament, which they open by playing San Benito on Dec. 26.

Santa Clara Girls Basketball Keeps Momentum Alive
The Lady Bruins (6-1) continued their season with a 54-38 win at Andrew Hill on Dec. 17. Senior Samantha Rudd led the Bruins with 14 points with seniors Stephanie Rudd and Cassondra Kingsbury each adding 10 points. The Bruins then defeated Yerba Buena 51-13 on Dec. 19 after pulling to a 43-9 lead at halftime. Samantha Rudd scored 13 points.

Wilcox Boys Basketball Wins Two, Loses One
The Chargers (6-1) defeated East Palo Alto 73-26 on Dec. 17 after storming to a 43-14 halftime lead. Senior Rubal Singh led the team with 17 points with senior Larry Jones adding 14, senior James Wickliffe adding 12 and Tecarro adding 10. The Chargers then suffered a 74-59 loss to Leigh on Dec. 18. Singh led the team with 15 points with Wickliffe adding 11, Jones adding 10, senior Raj Singh adding nine and senior Delshawn Mitchell adding eight. The Chargers then defeated Independence 72-52 on Dec. 19, led by Jones with 13 points, Wickliffe with 12, Mitchellwith 11 and Raj Singh with 10.

Santa Clara Boys Basketball
The Bruins (5-1) picked up a 44-41 win against Willow Glen on Dec. 17, thanks to a seven-point advantage in the final quarter where the Bruins outscored Willow Glen 18-11. Senior Cole Lockwood led the Bruins with 24 points.

Wilcox Wrestling Defeated In First League Bout
The Chargers (5-1, 0-1) were defeated 38-31 at Monta Vista (8-3, 1-0) on Dec. 19. Senior Mark Nguyen opened the match with a pin fall victory at 103-pounds while senior Brandon Algonoy(119), sophomore Vinnie Santiago (125), senior Josh Robinson (145), senior Cody Barraclough (152), sophomore Gabe Fuentes (172) and senior Justin Pohahau (285) also getting wins.

St. Lawrence Boys Basketball Wins
The Celtics (5-1) posted a 48-37 win over KIPP San Jose Collegiate on Dec. 19. Senior Zach San Diego led the team with 16 points and four rebounds, followed by junior Joseph Wang with 10 points and five rebounds. St. Lawrence hosts Liberty Baptist on Jan. 9.

St. Lawrence Girls Basketball Loses
In a blowout, the St. Lawrence girls basketball team (0-6) lost 29-9 to KIPP San Jose Collegiate on Dec. 19. The Celtics scored three in the second, four in the third and two in the fourth to make up the team’s nine points. The girls host Liberty Baptist on Jan. 9

Santa Clara University Women’s Basketball Loses
The Broncos lost 75-70 to UC Davis on Dec 18. The women shot 36.4 percent from the field and had 39 rebounds, 12 assists, one block and five steals. Junior Nici Gilday led the offense with 19 points and four rebounds. Freshman Jo Paine added 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Santa Clara hosts University of San Francisco on Dec. 30 at 7 p.m.
