Santa Clara Sporting 99G Team Claims Second in US National Tournament
The Santa Clara Sporting 99G U13 girls soccer team reached the championship game in the US National Tournament in Aurora, Colorado. The team faced heavy competition against the best teams in the nation, including a 1-1 tie against Washington, a 2-1 win over New Jersey and a 2-1 July 21 championship game loss to Illinois, in a game that saw Illinois claim the win with a corner kick goal in the 56th minute.

Briarwood Advances to CA Division II State Semi-Finals
Briarwood-El Camino Little League’s 10-11 All Star team reached the semi finals in the 2013 California Division II State tournament hosted by Section 6, District 73, Turlock National Little League.

After opening the tournament with a win and loss, Briarwood defeated Section 1’s Mill Valley 14-9 on July 22, followed by a 3-0 win over Section 3’s Danville on July 23. Briarwood’s championship run came to end, as they were defeated 17-5 by Section 4’s Woodcreek (Roseville) on July 24. The team placed third in Northern California and in the top six in the entire state.

Homestead Seniors Falls Short in Division II State Championship
After opening the Northern California Division II tournament with an 11-0 win over Taft on July 21, the Santa Clara team fell 14-11 to Livermore on July 23 and 11-1 to Rocklin on July 24, ending their stellar season. Santa Clara Native Pitches a Gem in A’s Farm System
Santa Clara native Carlos Hernandez recorded an eight-inning win on July 24 for the Midland Rockhounds, the Oakland Athletics’ Double-A Texas League affiliate. Hernandez struck out six and recorded one walk in the triumph. Over his last four starts, he has three wins and 17 strikeouts, as well a perfect 0.00 ERA, lowering his season ERA to 2.43.
