Wilcox Football Wins
The Chargers (5-1) shut out Fremont 40-0 on Oct. 18. Senior Sione Finefuiaki rushed for the team’s first touchdown on the night, but Wilcox failed to convert on the two-point conversation attempt. As the first quarter was winding down, senior Dominick Bailey broke for a 59-yard rushing touchdown and the second score of the game. Wilcox, again, missed the two-point conversation opportunity. In the second, senior Delshawn Mitchell ran for a 58-yard score and senior quarterback Kenny Dipko ran for 26-yards for the second TD of the quarter. With the half coming to a close, senior Benito Serrano scored on a defensive drive. Wilcox’s last score came from junior Ernest Marshall late in the game. Wilcox hosts Fremont for its homecoming game on Oct. 25. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Santa Clara Boys Football Loses
The Bruins (2-4) lost 46-7 to the Milpitas Trojans on Oct. 18. Santa Clara travels to Fremont to play Fremont on Oct. 25.

Santa Clara Girls Water Polo Wins
The Bruins beat Monta Vista 11-4 on Oct. 15.

Mission College Women’s Soccer Loses Twice
The Mission College Women’s Soccer Team lost 8-0 to De Anza College on Oct. 15 and 6-0 to Hartnell on Oct. 17. The Sanints host Monterey Peninsula College on Oct. 22 (after press time) and play at Ohlone on Oct. 24.

The Mitey Cat defense did a great job. Daniel Hernandez, Julian Garcia and Duce Meszaros came out hitting hard as Jenna Palacios of the Mitey Cat Cheer squad watched her older brother, Andrew. The offensive line opened up holes for Luther Glenn and Ethan Noriega to score touchdowns and lead the Mitey Cats to a 36-6 victory.

Thundercats’ quarterback Jason Guerrero stepped up his game and ran for a touchdown. Adam Arenas scored a touchdown as well, but it was the defensive play of Gennaro Fiorillo and Alex Le Pham that helped the T-Cats get the 14-0 shutout.

The Panthers won a hard-hitting battle against a very good Cambrian Valley team. The offense steadily pounded the running game with Paul Rosa Jr. running for over 200 yards and four touchdowns. The defense, led by Onyx Smith and anchored by Isaia Sasa, Vincent Santoro and Jose Sanchez, earned their fourth shutout of the season, and the secondary provided three interceptions. The Panthers won 26 – 0 and remain undefeated at 7-0.

Lions fought a hard battle. The Santa Clara Lions faced the Almaden Mustangs, both teams coming in to the game with a 5-1 record. The Lions that scored first, but the story this week is not about the players that you always hear about, it is about the players that stepped up in a big game. Robert Najar caught a 28-yard pass from Kelly and another late in the game to keep the Lions in it. Thomas O’Donnell and Xander Zell stepped up on defense, but the Lions lost 22-28.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats lost a 32-12 battle to Cambrian Valley.

Mission College Men’s Soccer Loses, Ties
Mission College lost 2-1 to Evergreen Valley College on Oct. 15. Pedro Sanches scored in the 52nd minute for Mission. MC then tied Cabrillo College 1-1 on Oct. 18. Mission’s goal was scored by Giovanny Luna in the 85th minute. Mission hosts Gavilan on Oct. 22 (after press time) and travels to Foothill on Oct. 25.

Santa Clara University Men’s Soccer Wins, Loses
SCU beat Gonzaga 2-1 on Oct. 18 before losing 4-1 to University of Portland on Oct. 20. Senior Harrison Hanley scored both of Santa Clara’s goals (36th and 79th minute) in the Gonzaga game. Freshman Edson Cardona scored the only goal for SCU in the loss to Portland. The Broncos play at University of Portland on Nov. 1.

Santa Clara University Women’s Soccer Wins Twice
Santa Clara beat Saint Mary’s College 4-0 on Oct. 18 and University of the Pacific 2-0 on Oct. 20. Senior Julie Johnston scored twice (11th and 33rd), and junior Sofia Huerta (18:45) and sophomore Dani Weatherholt (45th) once in the win over Saint Mary’s while Weatherholt (16th) and Huerta (27th) scored in the win over UoP. SCU plays University of San Francisco on Oct. 27.

Santa Clara University Women’s Volleyball Loses Twice
Santa Clara lost 3-1 (26-24, 28-30, 19-25, 15-25) to University of the Pacific on Oct. 17 and 3-2 (16-25, 25-17, 20-25, 25-15, 15-17) to Saint Mary’s College on Oct. 19. Junior Taylor Milton led the offense for the Broncos against UoP with 18 kills and 10 digs and senior Megan Anders had 16 kills in loss to Saint Mary’s. SCU plays at University of San Francisco on Oct. 25.

Santa Clara University Men’s Water Polo Loses
The Broncos lost 16-2 to UCLA on Oct. 20. Redshirt junior David Guibord scored both of SCU’s goals and redshirt junior goalie Matt Pritchett had 15 saves in the loss. Santa Clara hosts the Bronco Invitational Oct. 26-27.

Santa Clara University Cross Country Runs
Santa Clara hosted the Bronco Invitational on Oct. 20. The women won the Bronco Open and the men finished second. In the Bronco Invitational, the men finished 10th and women sixth. Junior Mary Kriege was the top-finisher for the women at the invitational, running a 21:08.4 and senior Lauren Germany was the second placing Bronco, running a 21:21.4 and placing in 14th. Sophomore Adrian Hinojosa finished 17th on the men’s side, running his race in 24:32.5. In the open, sophomore Elsa Valenzuela finished first, running a 22:57.8, with Germany coming in second (22:58.9) and sophomore Kate Yanish third (23:18.6). Redshirt junior Peter Stephens placed the highest for the men, running his race in 25:55.3.

Santa Clara University Men’s Golf Places Thirteenth
The Broncos participated in the Alister MacKenzie Invitational at the Sonoma Golf Club Oct. 14-15. Santa Clara shot an 880 (298-292-290 +16) for a 13th place finish. Sophomore Carlos Brioneswas the top-finisher individually for SCU, shooting a 211 (69-71-71 -5) and placing in tenth.
