At the VIP night at Smashburger restaurant on June 16, Mayor Jamie Matthews cut the ribbon before helping himself to a burger at Santa Clara’s newest fast-casual dining venue, located at 3948 Rivermark Plaza. Also attending the grand opening were members of the Santa Clara Chamber of Commerce. Smiling employees, in red t-shirts and black slacks, were ready to make guests comfortable.
“Santa Clara joins other international [regions] with great taste, such as Costa Rica, Canada, Saudi Arabia, and London with the opening of this wonderful new restaurant,” Matthews says. “Smashburger is on Forbes’s Top 10 list for the most promising companies.”
“Smashburger is all about giving back to our community,” says Huy Tran, the restaurant’s general manager. “We fundraise with the community to help out local charities, such as Junior Achievement, Saint Jude’s, and Child Advocates of Silicon Valley.”
The classic Smash burger is the all-American burger done right. First time diners at Smashburger have plenty to select from, including multiple chicken burger options, gluten-free burger buns, and creamy hand-spun shakes made with Häagen-Dazs ice-cream. The truffle mushroom Swiss burger offers bites packed with flavor, from the juicy meat to the earthy mushrooms. The Smashfries are fragrant with rosemary, and the sweet potato fries come warm and crispy. The restaurant offers a spin on the classic Cobb salad by using fried eggs instead of hard-boiled ones.
“We only use naturally aged cheddar cheese and Swiss cheese,” says Tim Escover, district manager of the restaurant. “Our beef is Angus, and it’s all fresh and never frozen. We use artesian buns. Our vegetables [and produce] are sourced locally to maintain the high quality of our products.”
