SCPD Officer Fires One Round, Suspect Arrested Uninjured

The Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD) is reviewing what happened before an officer discharged his weapon during a domestic disturbance call. No one was seriously injured in the incident.

According to a news release, officers responded to a domestic disturbance on Kiely Boulevard across the street from Central Park around 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17. The caller told police that the man had “assaulted a family member” and then left the home. Officers were later told that the man had armed himself with “several knives” prior to leaving the home. Parts of Kiely Boulevard were closed while officers looked for the man.

Police found him near the intersection of Kiely Boulevard and Homestead Road. According to the news release, “The suspect was still armed with knives and did not comply with the officers’ orders to drop them. The officers attempted verbal de-escalation tactics and the suspect did not comply. Officers deployed less lethal devices to take the suspect into custody and they were ineffective.”
