On Wednesday, April 25, Santa Clara Police Department arrested two felony vandalism suspects at Santa Clara high School.
The alleged vandalists are 18-year-old Jared Brobst of Santa Clara, a student at SCHS who was the QB of the Bruins football team, and a 17-year-old juvenile male, who’s identity is being kept confidential because he is a minor.
The investigation began on March 31, when Santa Clara High School officials discovered numerous shattered windows across the campus. On the same day, Wilcox High School employees also reported that several office building windows had been shattered.
On April 16, SCPD Detectives learned that other schools in Santa Clara County had been similarly vandalized over the same time period. Those additional high schools with significant damage include: Del Mar, Leigh, Prospect, Lynbrook, Saratoga, Branham and Cupertino. Working closely with school officials and other police agencies, Santa Clara Police Detective Mark Shimada positively identified the suspects while investigating the cases. Damage estimates currently exceed $30,000.
On April 26th, Brobst and the juvenile were arrested without incident. Brobst was booked into Santa Clara County Jail, and the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office has filed multiple counts of felony and misdemeanor vandalism against him. He is scheduled for arraignment in Superior Court on May 10. The juvenile was cited for several counts of felony vandalism and released to a responsible adult.
Anyone with information about these cases is encouraged to call Detective Mark Shimada at (408) 615-4816.
