Santa Clara Women’s Club Rings in 2013 With Annual “Re-Gifting” Auction

Last week it was time for “Christmas After Christmas,” at the Santa Clara Women’s Club’s annual “regifting” auction. It’s an event that’s fun for both donors and buyers, and the proceeds help fund the club’s charitable activities and maintenance of its historic 1790 adobe.

This year’s auction featured items as varied as garden bug-shaped baking pans and a “Coach” bag of questionable provenance, plus some indisputable finds including a Lenox nut dish and a 2007 Pinot Noir. As usual, member Marlene O’Donnell ran the show as auctioneer; playing for plenty of laughs and ably assisted by Betty DaVita.

The club’s next event is its annual Fashion Show. This year’s theme is Spring Into Fashion, with fashions supplied by Dress Barn. The show will be held Saturday Feb. 9, 2013 at David’s Restaurant on 5151 Stars & Stripes Drive, at 11:00 a.m. Admission is $45 and tickets sell out fast. Mail ticket orders to Marge Banko, 429 Fernandez Ct., Santa Clara 95050. For more information, call Marge Banko at 408-241-2586 or Jeannie Mahan at 408-296-1525.

The Santa Clara Women’s Club’s monthly lunch is held the first Friday of every month at the Adobe on 3260 The Alameda. Visitors are always welcome. For information, visit www.santaclarawomansclub.org or call (408) 246-8000.

The Adobe is also available for private events. Dating back to the era of the third Mission Santa Clara church, dedicated in 1784 by Father Junipero Serra, the 1790 structure is one of the oldest in Northern California. The Woman’s Club pays all the costs of maintaining and insuring the historic building.
