Santa Clara Police Report: September 29 – October 5

The Police Blotter highlights a partial list of incidents in the city and is distributed on a weekly basis. The Blotter provides the date, time, approximate location, a narrative summary of the incident, case number and the most serious arrest charge.

Meanwhile, the Arrest Log provides a timely, chronological summary of all the arrests made by the Santa Clara Police Department. It includes the name of the suspect(s), date of birth, city in which they reside, arrest date, time, location, case number as well as all of the charge(s) associated with the arrest. Driving Under the Influence

Location: 3400 Block of Pruneridge Avenue

An officer responded to the 3400 block of Pruneridge Avenue to conduct a welfare check. Upon arrival, the officer located a male driver asleep behind the wheel. The gearshift was in drive, half of the vehicle was parked on the sidewalk and the driver had vomit on himself.

The officer contacted the subject who displayed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication. The subject proceeded through the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and a Preliminary Alcohol Screening Test was facilitated. The subject’s blood alcohol content measured 0.075% and 0.070%. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

NOTE: Alcohol and/or drugs impair your judgment. It is illegal to drive after consuming excessive amounts of alcohol in any form, including prescription, over the counter and illegal drugs. It is also illegal to smoke or ingest any cannabis product while driving or riding as a passenger in a motor vehicle.

If an officer suspects that you are under the influence of drugs, the officer can legally require you to take a blood or urine test. It is illegal for any person to operate a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of:

  • 0.08% or higher, if the person is 21 years old or older;
  • 0.01% or higher, if the person is under 21 years old;
  • 0.01% or higher at any age, if the person is on a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) probation;
  • 0.04% or higher, in any vehicle requiring a CDL—with or without a CDL issued to the driver;
  • 0.04% or higher, when a passenger for hire is in the vehicle at the time of the offense.

The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) can take administrative action against your driving privilege after you are detained or arrested for a DUI, including suspending or revoking your driving privilege. The court may take a separate action for the same offense. The court’s action may involve a fine, jail time, delay of the driver’s license and completion of a DUI program.

Suspicious Circumstances

Location: Thamien Park, 4321 Lick Mill Boulevard

A reporting party came across a significant amount of blood in Thamien Park and contacted Public Safety Dispatchers.

An officer responded to the scene and determined the blood was from a previous call for service (Case Number 19-0929181). In the previous call for service, a male subject sustained an accidental laceration to his hand. The Santa Clara Fire Department responded, and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Theft from a Vehicle

Location: 3000 Block of El Camino Real

Between 2100 hours and 2115 hours, an unknown suspect(s) broke the front passenger window of the victim’s locked vehicle parked on the 3000 block of El Camino Real. The suspect(s) stole a purse from the front passenger floorboard and fled in an unknown direction. The damage to the vehicle is estimated at $750, plus an estimated $210 in stolen property.

Sex Registrant

Location: 3500 Block of El Camino Real

An officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop on the 3500 block of El Camino Real for expired registration.

A Records check revealed the male driver is a sex registrant. He was out of compliance with his required registration. He was arrested.

Embezzlement

Location: 3100 Block of Stevens Creek Boulevard

A business on the 3100 block of Stevens Creek Boulevard noticed small amounts of money and property missing from their employee break room. Through investigation, it was determined an employee had stolen approximately $337.19 in cash and property. The employee was terminated, and a promissory agreement was created to repay the amount. A representative from the business contacted SCPD and desired prosecution.

Drugs

Location: El Camino Real and Kiely Boulevard

An officer observed a male subject riding a bicycle on the sidewalk on El Camino Real near Kiely Boulevard. The officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop.

Upon contact, the officer learned the subject was in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He was arrested.

Robbery

Location:  2300 Block of El Camino Real

Public Safety Dispatchers received a call for service regarding a prior robbery.

Upon arrival, officers learned an unknown male subject in a black mask entered a business on the 2300 block of El Camino Real and attempted to steal the cash register. A brief struggle ensued between the store employee and subject, resulting in the employee being pushed to the ground. The employee was uninjured, and the suspect fled the scene on foot. It is estimated the cash register contained approximately $300.
