The Police Blotter highlights a partial list of incidents in the city and is distributed on a weekly basis. The Blotter provides the date, time, approximate location, a narrative summary of the incident, case number and the most serious arrest charge.
Meanwhile, the Arrest Log provides a timely, chronological summary of all the arrests made by the Santa Clara Police Department. It includes the name of the suspect(s), date of birth, city in which they reside, arrest date, time, location, case number as well as all the charge(s) associated with the arrest. This information, located on the Santa Clara Police Department’s home page (www.scpd.org), is updated daily and serves as the most comprehensive list of arrests made.
Based on the mandatory orders from Santa Clara County Public Health, the City of Santa Clara has implemented many service level changes, limited to essential services. Since the preparation and distribution of a Police Blotter is not an essential service, it will be produced as resources are available.

Warrant Arrest
Location: El Camino Real and Los Padres Boulevard
An officer made consensual contact with a male subject near the intersection of El Camino Real and Los Padres Boulevard.
A Records check revealed the subject had four outstanding misdemeanor warrants. The officer issued the subject with a Notice to Appear, a new court date and released him from the scene.

Vandalism
Location: 3500 Block of Sunnydays Lane
An officer was flagged down by a U.S. Postal Carrier near the intersection of Lawrence Road and Sunnydays Lane.
The Postal Carrier had just come across one mailbox panel with approximately ten mail slots that had been damaged. The mail slots were exposed and had little to no mail inside.

The City of Santa Clara has experienced an uptick in mail theft since November 2020. While there was one arrest made in connection with these thefts (Case 21-103009), the lengths to which mail thieves will go to steal from mailboxes is startling. The Santa Clara Police Department asks residents to be observant of suspicious activity and remain vigilant.
Protect Yourself and Your Mail
- Do not send cash or gift cards
- Retrieve mail as soon after delivery as possible, or have a friend do it
- Sign up for Informed Delivery, a free feature allowing you to digitally preview your incoming mail and manage your arriving packages
- Sign up to receive your mail at a PO Box
- Install a locking mailbox, and be sure to lock your mailbox after each use
- Place outgoing mail in a USPS collection box
- Be certain to place your mail on hold with USPS if you are going to be away on vacation or business
- If you move, file a change of address with USPS
- When mailing something important, request signature confirmation
- Inquire about overdue mail with the sender
Steps to Take if Your Mail or a Package has been Stolen
- Report mail theft or an incident of mailbox vandalism to USPS online or call 877-876-2455. Postal Inspectors investigate these crimes.
- Report mail or package theft to the Santa Clara Police Department online at scpd.org
- If you see someone actively tampering with a mailbox, immediately call 9-1-1. To report suspicious activity, call the non-emergency phone line at 408-615-5580.

Residential Burglary
Location: 1600 Block of Hope Drive
Between 1/17/21 and 1/24/21, an unknown subject(s) entered the victim’s open garage on the 1600 block of Hope Drive and a battery powered scooter valued at approximately $500.
The victim initially reported this incident as a theft online however the report was denied online because it was classified incorrectly.

NOTE: What is the difference between Theft and Burglary?
Burglary and theft are criminal offenses used interchangeably however the two words connote different meanings.
Theft refers to the unlawful ownership of another person’s possession or unauthorized taking of another person’s property without the knowledge of the owner.
Burglary is an unlawful act of unauthorized entry to another person’s building (residential or commercial) with the aim to commit a crime.

Commercial Burglary
Location: Bowers Park, 2582 Block of Cabrillo Avenue
Between 1/26/21 at 1800 hours and 1/27/21 at 0730 hours, an unknown subject(s) broke into the storage room at Bowers Park, located at 2582 Cabrillo Avenue
The subject moved items around inside the storage space and stole a tool. The subject(s) remain at large.

Weapons
Location: Lawrence Expressway and Kifer Road
An officer observed a vehicle traveling near Lawrence Expressway and Kifer Road without a front license plate. The officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop.
On contact, the officer saw cannabis on the center console and could smell cannabis emanating from the vehicle. A Records check of the male subject revealed he was on Post Release Community Supervision and was subject to search and seizure. A search of the vehicle yielded a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, $1,108 in cash, a loaded semi-automatic handgun chambered inside the dash of his vehicle and ammunition. The handgun had a threaded barrel and did not have a serial number.
He was arrested and his vehicle was towed.

Loud Party
Location: 1000 Block of Benton Street
Public Safety Dispatchers received a call for service on the 1000 block of Benton Street.
On arrival, there were approximately 15 individuals inside the residence and 6 individuals outside. Amplified must was being played and there was alcohol and cannabis present on the premises.
The party was shut down while officers were present, and a police response card was provided.

NOTE: Public Safety Dispatchers received eight (8) calls for service in the Santa Clara University footprint. Of these, five (5) were issued first response notices. The balance of the calls for service were cleared with a warning or no report. At the writing of the Police Blotter, citations have not yet been issued to property owners and/or property managers.

Proof of Registration
Location: Benton Street and Lawrence Expressway
An officer conducted a Department of Motor Vehicle check on a vehicle traveling westbound on Benton Street towards Lawrence Expressway. The return revealed the registration was expired yet the vehicle displayed a current registration sticker. The officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop.
The male driver was issued a citation and released from the scene.
