Santa Clara Police Report: August 25 – 31

Delinquency

Location: Multiple locations

At 1725 hours, Public Safety Dispatchers began receiving several calls regarding a group of 20-30 bicyclists creating a disturbance in multiple locations throughout the city – near Santa Clara University, Benton Street, Lafayette Street and Aldo Avenue.

The bicyclists were obstructing traffic, ignoring traffic laws, vandalized a vehicle, assaulted a store clerk and other concerning behavior. As officers located the group, the bicyclists separated and fled.

Four male subjects were apprehended, one adult male and three male juveniles. Juvenile Crime Reports were issued for the juveniles before they were released to their parents. The adult was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

An unknown suspect(s) entered through an open rear sliding door. The suspect(s) stole jewelry and electronics. The suspect(s) is unknown and at large.

Tuesday, August 27, 2019

Hit and Run – Felony

Location: San Tomas Expressway and Walsh Avenue

Officers responded to a multiple vehicle crash on San Tomas Expressway and Walsh Avenue. A male driver involved in the collision fled the scene.

Through investigation, the suspect was located nearby. During the arrest, he displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol. The suspect did not satisfactorily perform the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. His blood alcohol content measured 0.24 percent and 0.23 percent. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

One of the other involved parties was injured and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Petty Theft

Location: 2700 Block of Augustine Drive

Public Safety Dispatchers received a call regarding a female subject that had been detained as a result of a petty theft on the 2700 block of Augustine Drive.

Loss Prevention Officers observed the female subject exit the store without paying for numerous items, totaling $347.20. She was arrested.

Traffic Accident – Major Injury

Location: Lafayette Street and Central Expressway

Officers were dispatched to a report of an injury accident at Lafayette Street and Central Expressway.

Upon arrival, officers found vehicle had run a red light and struck a second vehicle. Two individuals were injured and transported to a local hospital.

Grand Theft

Location:    El Camino Real and Scott Boulevard

An officer responded to a business on El Camino Real at Scott Boulevard.

A male subject initially approached the victim asking for money for gas, claiming to be from out of the country and having had his wallet stolen. The scam evolved and the subject asked to exchange $1,000 for jewelry. The victim drove to a bank, collected the money and gave it to the suspect in exchange for the jewelry. The victim later learned the jewelry was fake.

The suspect remains at large.

Street Racer

Location:  Lafayette St. / Calle De Primavera

Public Safety Dispatchers were contacted regarding approximately 20-30 vehicles racing and blocking traffic.

Upon arrival, the officer observed approximately 100 vehicles blocking north and southbound Lafayette Street as well as Calle De Primavera. An estimated 50 pedestrians were watching the race from the sidewalk. The pedestrians and vehicles fled in all directions.

One vehicle blocking an intersection had expired registration. An officer attempted to conduct a vehicle enforcement stop however the subject failed to yield. After a short pursuit, the subject pulled over on Highway 237. During the pursuit, the subject collided with a patrol vehicle. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.
