Santa Clara Police Report: August 23 – 29

The Police Blotter highlights a partial list of incidents in the city and is distributed on a weekly basis. The Blotter provides the date, time, approximate location, a narrative summary of the incident, case number and the most serious arrest charge.

Meanwhile, the Arrest Log provides a timely, chronological summary of all the arrests made by the Santa Clara Police Department. It includes the name of the suspect(s), date of birth, city in which they reside, arrest date, time, location, case number as well as all the charge(s) associated with the arrest. This information, located on the Santa Clara Police Department’s home page (www.scpd.org), is updated daily and serves as the most comprehensive list of arrests made.

Vehicle Burglary

Location: Bassett Street and Norman Avenue

Public Safety Dispatchers received a call regarding a vehicle burglary in progress in the area of Bassett Street and Norman Avenue. According to the reporting party, a male subject was seen breaking the driver’s side window of a parked vehicle and reaching inside of it.

As officers arrived in the area, multiple alarms could be heard, and two vehicles were determined to be broken into.

An officer observed a subject matching the reporting party’s description fleeing on foot southbound on Bassett Street. The subject hopped on a motorcycle and began traveling on southbound Bassett Street directly towards a responding officer. The officer activated the patrol vehicle’s emergency lights and sirens and attempted to block the subject from fleeing. The subject became unbalanced on the motorcycle, struck the police vehicle and fled on foot. The subject disregarded police commands and the officer deployed a police canine which apprehended the subject.

A search of the subject revealed tools commonly used to commit burglaries, drug paraphernalia, a credit card not belonging to the subject and other miscellaneous property later determined to be taken from the nearby vehicles.

The subject was transported to a local hospital and after being medically cleared was taken to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Residential Burglary

Location: 900 Block of College Avenue

Between 8/23/2020 at approximately 2000 hours and 8/24/2020 at approximately 1400 hours, an unknown subject(s) entered an unsecured side sliding door, stole a binder containing confidential documents and exited the residence. The subject(s) is at large.

Drug Possession

Location: 2500 Block of El Camino Real

Public Safety Dispatchers received a call regarding an occupied suspicious vehicle on the 2500 block of El Camino Real.

The responding officer contacted the male subject in a vehicle matching the reporting party’s description. The subject was holding a glass pipe in his hands and a controlled substance was in plain sight on the passenger seat.

A Records check revealed the subject was on searchable probation. A search was conducted, and no additional illegal items were located. He was issued a citation and released at the scene.

Grand Theft

Location: 2900 Block of Lakeside Drive

Public Safety Dispatchers received a call from a hotel manager regarding a theft in the 2900 block of Lakeside Drive.

A room check revealed an unknown subject(s) stole the room’s television, desk lamp and safe, valued at $1,100. The subject(s) remain outstanding.

Vandalism

Location: 3000 Block of El Camino Real

The Community Response Team is investigating a graffiti mural in the Alpine Alley in the 3000 block of El Camino Real. The graffiti is nearly identical to an incident from 2015.  The investigation is on-going.

Grand Theft

Location: Victor Court and Victor Street

At approximately 0730 hours, two unknown subjects stole a generator from outside the victim’s RV near the intersection of Victor Street and Victor Court. The generator was worth approximately $800. The subjects are outstanding.

Burglary

Location: 900 Block of El Camino Real

At approximately 0809 hours, three unknown subjects broke the glass door to enter the business and stole an unknown amount of lottery scratchers and a tequila bottle. The subjects have not been identified and remain at large.
