Cub Scouts from Santa Clara’s Pack 43 converged on Sutter Elementary School to refinish picnic tables and benches.
“Sutter Elementary graciously lets us use their multipurpose room every month for our Pack meetings. We also have den meetings there throughout the year. As a small token of our appreciation, we are helping them refinish their picnic tables”, stated Jennifer Barber, a den leader with Pack 43. “Cub Scouts emphasizes leadership, character development, and community service. We think this project is a great way to teach our scouts about giving back to the community.”
A total of 15 Scouts and their families participated in the service project. Adults ran power sanders to strip the old paint then the scouts painted the tables and benches. The scouts saved the Santa Clara School District and Sutter Elementary time and money they would have otherwise had to spend refinishing the benches themselves.
The Sutter Elementary service project is one of the many community and educational activities the Cub Scouts participate in. Additional activities include Scouting for Food, Veteran’s Day Parade, Creek Clean ups, Camping, and an annual Pinewood Derby.
