Santa Clara City Library Offers Job Search Series

Looking for a job? You can find help at the Santa Clara City Library’s free “Find a Job in February” series, featuring workshops with local experts. The series is sponsored by a grant from the Foundation and Friends of the Santa Clara City Library.

On Feb 12, 40 eager jobseekers heard from LinkedIn Enterprise Account Executive Michael Gross, who advised them that employers and recruiters are using social media more than ever before and that’s trend is only going to increase.

Social media changes the business of job seeking. Gross advises jobseekers to “brand yourself as a professional” with your LinkedIn profile and “leverage your relationships by connecting with at least 30 people on LinkedIn.”

“Today’s presentation was introductory and very useful,” says Santa Clara resident Malendra Suigh who attended the class. “I am looking forward to more detailed lectures in the fourth week of this month. People have already found a job through the direction provided by these presentations.”

On February 20, the topic will be “Craigslist for Jobseekers.” Following that, two more sessions on LinkedIn are scheduled. “LinkedIn: Develop a Profile” on February 27 in the library’s Cedar Room. The following day, NOVA career coach Camille Grabowski will speak on “LinkedIn: Effective Job Search.” Grabowski specializes in working with jobseekers over 50. NOVA is a federally funded employment and training agency.

And on February 21 from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m., Reference Librarian Mary Boyle will teach students how to use the library to review their resumes and find potential employers.

Classes are free and no reservations needed – but the library advises you to get there early.
