Quakes Corner

Finally, soccer fans can breathe a sigh of relief! The anticipation is over and the San Jose Earthquakes are back and ready for action as they open their season against Real Salt Lake at Buck Shaw Stadium this Saturday, March 19 at 7:30 p.m.

Many exciting things have happened this offseason and according to the Quakes’ website, the team has a full pre-game show planned with announcer John Shrader and former player and Quakes Ambassador Kelly Gray leading a discussion on the team’s offseason moves. They will also discuss what it will take to bring an MLS Cup back to the South Bay.

Amway will be providing face painting and sign-making stations in the concourse area as well as various games like foosball and activities to please adults and children alike.

No sporting event is complete without sampling some traditionally bad for you foods, but this season the Quakes have brought in Bon Appétit to provide a wide variety of healthy food options to give fans choices outside of the standard hot dogs and nachos. Bon Appétit will bring in items such as fresh fruit and apples with peanut butter. There will also be options such as Ampai’s Thai Chicken Sandwich, named after the Quakes new midfielder Anthony Ampaipitakwong and the Seismic Sandwich with a choice of carved turkey or roast beef. Of course, there couldn’t be new food items without the mention of striker Chris Wondolowski. Wondo’s BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich will be on the menu as will Convey’s Carved Meat Bowl with a choice of turkey or roast beef served over mashed potatoes and gravy. There will even be a few vegetarian options like the Veggie Cha Cha Bowl and Crudite Veggie Tray.

If those weren’t enough items to tempt your palette, the Quakes will be bringing in gourmet food trucks like El Tonayense Taco Truck serving carne asada and pollo tacos, tortas and super burritos and Tikka Bytes serving a spicy chicken tikka masala naanwich and a vegetarian option of tikka paav. BBQ Kalbi will serve Koren-style tacos and burritos and for dessert Kara’s Cupcakes KaraVan and TreatBot Truck will be on hand to tame your sweet tooth.

As of Monday tickets were still available for Saturday’s opening night match up. So, if you haven’t already, grab a ticket, get outside and checkout all Buck Shaw has to offer while enjoying what is gearing up to be a great soccer season!
