¿Qiensave? Plays Mission College July 13

Mission College’s next free outdoor concert will feature Salinas-based ¿Qiensave? who play Latin dance music with roots stretching back to Michoacan, Mexico.

The concert on the plaza will take place on Wednesday, July 13 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Patrons are encouraged to bring a chair and/or blanket. Mission College’s own hospitality management food truck will be on site. Alcohol is prohibited.

The group features Qien Cortez on vox and rhythm guitar, Alejandro Gomez on vox and lead guitar, Mario Cortez on keyboards, Guira (a type of percussion instrument), and vox, William Cortez on bass, and Ricardo Cortez on drums.

According to the band’s website, “¿Qiensave? is a Cumbia Urbana group from Salinas California with roots stretching back to Michoacán, Mexico. They create high-energy dance music that has fortunately blessed them with the opportunity to travel throughout California, Arizona, Mexico, and Colombia.”

The band was founded in 2009 and recently released its sophomore album “Mujer.” The album features singles produced by world-renowned and Latin Grammy-nominated musician Eric Canales and Platinum Producer Sam Pura.

¿Qiensave? has shared the stage with acts like Celso Piña, Grupo Kual, La Santa Cecilia, Fuerza de Tijuana, and La Septima Banda among others. Currently, the band is promoting the release of their new single “512-1433” which is the story of being given the same number by two different women.

Other concerts this summer include Soul singer Lilan Kane on Wednesday, July 27 and Latin singer Masha Campagne, as part of City of Santa Clara Night, on Wednesday, August 10. Mission College started its summer concert series on June 15 and plans to run free concerts every other Wednesday through the summer. The events are featured at the school’s new Central Plaza, which is now located where the campus’ first Main Building once was.
