PRIVATE DONATION ANNOUNCEMENT

Details:

On Tuesday, June 26, 2012 the mother of fallen soldier and Santa Clara Police Department Explorer Sean M. Walsh will present a $10,000.00 donation for the purchase of the next Santa Clara Police Department Canine. Ms. Cheryl Walsh of San Jose created the “Sean M. Walsh K-9 Memorial Foundation” as a tribute to her son Sean after he was killed in Afghanistan last November while serving as a military policeman for the California Army National Guard. Ms. Walsh will address the Santa Clara City Council at 7:00 pm during the Special Order of Business.

Sean Walsh joined the Santa Clara Police Explorer Program as a high school student in 2007. He volunteered hundreds of hours at community events and other functions. Sean aspired to become a Santa Clara Police Officer and canine handler. Sean is remembered for his leadership and commitment to public service. He was 21 years old when he died.

This donation will provide the Santa Clara Police Department with a replacement canine at no initial expense to the City of Santa Clara. Keeping the canine unit at full strength is a significant benefit to the Department and the community.
